Winner “Best Countryside Hotel 2019 – “Top 10 Wedding Venues in Kent” KENT LIFE MAGAZINE November 2019
Explore the delights of the South East Coast while enjoying the best in Kentish hospitality – only an hour from London…!
PROUD RECIPIENT OF TRIPADVISOR 2018 & 2019 CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE
Hidden away in the Kent countryside and only a short distance from Sandwich Bay, our special place is one of very few truly independent country hotels in the county of Kent. Situated at Ham, near Sandwich it’s a wonderful place to take a short break, relax and unwind, while enjoying the flora and fauna and of course the very best in Kentish hospitality.
The ‘Donkey is a 22 bedroomed country house hotel with its own pub and dining room-and new for 2020 our very own glamping site. We have fantastic party and reception facilities too. Our hotel is situated only an hour from London with Canterbury, Deal, Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate all within a short drive – the cross channel port of Dover is just up the road making us the perfect stop off for those on the way to and from the continent.
We are a real get-away location, truly rural yet also within a stone’s throw of so very much to do. Our nearby East Kent coast is a mecca for tourists. The irresistible draw of St.Margarets Bay, Walmer, Kingsdown and Sandwich Bay has resulted in growing numbers of visitors flocking to this little-known corner of our country to discover all that it has to offer.
Golf fans wishing to test their skills over the links of Royal St.Georges (2020 Open Championship venue), Princes, with its inspired 27 hole set up and Royal Cinque Ports are spoiled here too with such a cluster of world class golf courses right on our doorstep (see VIP golf).
Actually, the pub came first and so the hotel’s vibe is quite an informal one. We want you to unwind and chill out while you are with us so we’ve turned the traditional hotel layout on its head – gone is the formality often found, replaced instead with a rustic charm emphasized by an open-plan layout with stripped back blonde floorboards, riven flagstone floors and a uniquely relaxed atmosphere.
In the Winter guests can park themselves in one of our deep, oversized sofas or arm chairs and properly curl up beside one of our inviting roaring fires. And in the Summer our beautifully kept gardens are a world away from the daily hum-drum and the perfect hideway.
Our restaurant is intentionally not fine dining –its popular locally and comes without all the fuss -but with all the charm – and our food; deliciously unpretentious and unashamedly British. Expect pies and puds in the Winter and day boat fish and salads in the Summer. Great steaks are on all year!
Whether on business or pleasure, we very much hope to welcome you to our special place very soon, where it will be our genuine pleasure to extend to you the warmest of welcomes to Ham, Sandwich!
