BROADSTAIRS & MARGATE
Broadstairs is a stunning place in its own right, add in great beaches and walks and its a winner. For the bibliophiles this is where Charles Dickens stayed in Bleak House and wrote, yes you guessed it – Bleak House. Margate has been a Londoners staple day trip town for over a century, with lovely beaches, restaurants of all varieties and Fish and Chips ahoy its a great day out for everyone.
PLANES AND TRAINS
Stay with us and you can take the family on a leisurely heritage trip on the East Kent Railway, visit the amazing Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Museum, discover more secrets of WW2 at Fan Bay Deep Shelter tunnels or go further back in history with a tour of nearby Dover Castle.
WHAT TO SEE
The 700 year old Dover Castle is a fascinating place to visit. Sitting proudly on the White Cliffs, the castle holds many secrets and mysteries to uncover. The Great Tower built by Henry II as a medieval palace. See vividly-recreated rooms filled with colourful tapestries and imagine the world or the Royal Courts Ascend the many steps to the rooftop for amazing views across the English Channel. Visit the underground complex through the winding Medieval Tunnels built during and after the Siege of 1216 to protect the castle from attack. Operation Dynano or evacuation of Dunkirk by the little ships was run from here. See the anti-aircraft gun, the only working example of just six left in the world. There are 80 acres of castle grounds to explore. Walk the battlements and mighty defences as you stretch your legs and imagination at England’s greatest fortress.
WALMER CASTLE AND GARDENS
Walmer Castle and Gardens offers a chance to enjoy historic gardens and wonderful sea views. The Secret Gardens of Sandwich, designed by Sir Edward Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll, are close by. Time your visit well and you can visit the Little Gardens of Sandwich. The Little Gardens are an eclectic group of eight gardens and an allotment open to the public in summer.
GET OUT ON THE WATER
Bartons Point Coastal Park’s lake provides opportunities for sailing, kayaking, paddle-boarding and windsurfing year-round. You can take Canterbury Historic river tours or try punting on the Stour too. We believe the sign directing travelers to Ham, in Sandwich is possibly one of the most photographed in the world. The Medieval town of Sandwich is worth a visit and why not try the local specialty. Fish. Just around the corner lies the quaint, quirky and quintessentially English seaside town of Deal. With the famous Deal Castle, its sandy beaches and traditional pubs, restaurants and bars, it’s not to be missed. A short drive, or cycle ride away from the Glamping site makes for a quick and easy morning or afternoon out and enjoy many of the walks around the town.

The East Kent coast is the perfect location to enjoy a walking break. In an area of outstanding natural beauty there is plenty of the ‘big outdoors’ to explore. There are walks to suit all levels of fitness, from little ones to old, fit or needing fitness Kent has them all. Rope walk at the quay in Sandwich and Sandwich Bay itself are two particularly popular spots to visit and is within a easy drive or brisk walk. With its geographical position, its three coastlines and the diversity of its habitats, Kent is one of the best counties for bird watching in the UK With woodlands, plains, crop fields, beaches and cliffs alongside ancient forests and woodlands the varieties are incredible and some of the most diverse in the UK The bays of Sandwich and the cliffs are particularly spectacular.
SEAL EXCURSIONS AT SANDWICH BAY
Spend a couple of hours spotting some seals on a seal excursion. There is a thriving population of Common Harbour
Seals in the estuary of the River Stour, with excursions leaving from the Sandwich Quay.
